The 84 Stem by Bocci is a performance act of raw natural origin. To form this abstract and otherworldly figure, a white glass moil is captured inside a fine copper mesh basket and then plunged into hot clear glass. Air is blown into the matrix to gently push the white glass through the mesh, creating a delicate pillowed form suspended inside the thick outer layer of glass. Sometimes the copper mesh basket folds and crinkles, as the exterior undulates, accentuating the gentle white pillowing below. A light source introduced into the piece casts a warm, coppery hue throughout the hand formed globes. The 84 Stem mounts these experimental, organic sculptures to an unlacquered brass or black powder coated stem in groups of 3, 6, 9, or 12 globes, each uniquely hand formed. The brass stem can used in a variety of configurations, each providing their own unique perspective. As a floor lamp, the stem is mounted to a matching brass or powder coated black cylindrical base. The same stem can also be ceiling mounted, the stem grounded to a white or black round canopy, or suspended horizontally, with two canopies, each suspending one end of the stem. In column configuration, the stem is self supporting, with an integrated spring loaded spike system allowing for both vertical and angled installation. These evocative, pillowed glass sculptures can also be had as a Random fixture, whose pendants hang at various heights for added depth, while a Table Lamp and Sconce are also available.
